Seeing Red
As the only zoo in the United States to
exhibit rare red uakari monkeys, the Los Angeles Zoo is also one of the
few facilities in the world where these primates have successfully bred
in captivity. With another breeding pair we're hoping there's more on the
way.
the possible exception of a few
South American zoos, the Los Angeles Zoo is the only zoo in the world to
exhibit uakari monkeys (pronounced wah-kah-ree). The New World primates
are distinguished by their bright red faces. Though the rest of their bodies
are covered with medium-length dusty red hair, the skin of their bare red
face becomes even redder when the animals are angry or excited.
This is the Los Angeles Zoo's wonderful Wolf
Woods, new home to two magnificent female gray wolves — one of which
can be found somewhere within this picture... if you look very, very carefully. |
